Have you heard about the rainbow diet?
It is such a fun way to think about eating.
It is based on the premise of incorporating all the colors
of the rainbow into
the healthy foods that make up the diet,
and shunning "white junk" foods, which
are usually loaded with refined sugar and carbohydrates.
The concept is simple and the results are astounding.
It is nutritional brilliance
because it incorporates all the different colors:
red, orange, yellow, green,
blue, indigo and violet into the food we eat.
Foods with a variety of colors have different healthy nutrients:
vitamins, minerals, microelements, and
antioxidants. What is important with this diet is to get a variety of
colors in the foods you are consuming.
The main function of the rainbow diet is to provide variety in your intake of food and ensure that the body
gets a healthy balance of nutrients.
The principle of this is simple.
Start the day with red, and travel through the colors of the rainbow, for example.
red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, so ending the day with blue,
indigo and white foods.
RED AND ORANGE AND YELLOW
Red foods are known to treat people with low energy. Along
with orange and yellow foods they are good to eat in the morning.
Oranges, bananas, strawberries, and oats are good examples of the foods
to eat in the morning. Watermelon, raspberries and red apples all
provide ellagic acid and lycopene. Orange foods such as carrots and
squash and pumpkin provide cartenoids. Yellow foods such as lemons and
pineapple provide flavonoids and limonene.
GREEN
Green foods such as salads, avocadoes, kale, chard and cucumbers are best eaten at
midday. They bring calm to the digestive system and provide essential
nutrients to the body.
BLUE PURPLE AND WHITE
In the evening it is best to eat blue, indigo foods such as aubergines and plums, cabbage.
This provides lycopene and bilberry.
This is one consept of the diet.
I love the idea of eating colors and getting variety!
But the rest is once again over the top for me.
If I want a green drink for breakfast I'll have one thank you,
and I don't like how hard they restrict the calories.
Although I have to admit it is a lot more fun than counting calories or going
by that old pyramid I was raised with.
But for me, I love the simplicity of just eating all the colors and varieties
knowing they will supply my body with the nutrients I need..
So if you are looking for a diet, be aware of how splendidly eating
all the colors and varieties of foods
can be for your health, and just enjoy all those colors!
