When it comes to making healthy superfood smoothies, there’s more to it than simply throwing in some fruit and blending it up. If you want to ensure they’re not only healthy, but tasty too, there’s some tips you’ll definitely want to consider.

1.) Make use of frozen ingredients
There’s contradictory advice out there surrounding whether you should be using fresh or frozen produce in your smoothies. There’s a common belief that fresh is best, but this isn’t always necessarily the case.
Frozen ingredients can contain just as many nutrients as fresh. It all depends on when they were frozen. If they were picked and frozen right away, they’re going to maintain the same level of nutrients as they had when they were fresh. There’s also the fact that frozen ingredients are cheaper to buy and last longer too.

2.) Use natural flavorings
If you find your superfood smoothies to be a little bland, always use natural flavorings to enhance them. For example, dates, honey, and stevia honey are better choice to add sweetness to a smoothie instead of sugar?

3.) Add water to thin the smoothie out
If you find the smoothie is too thick, water is the best thing to use to thin it out. It’s healthy, readily available and will help to thin the smoothie out without adding additional calories.  Plus it gives your body a little bit more water.

4.) Focus on what you want to achieve
Superfoods each have their own unique benefits. So, when thinking of creating a superfood smoothie, you need to determine what your goals are. Do you simply want a healthier breakfast? Or maybe you’re looking for a smoothie which will boost the immune system?
Once you know what your overall goals are, you can then figure out which recipes are best.

5.) Pair your superfoods carefully
Not all superfoods will go well together. So, when thinking of what to add in the smoothie, be careful to match the right superfoods together. Orange fruits and avocado or kale and almonds, are great examples of superfoods which work well together.
